Pathcore is a Toronto-based software company specializing in data management and workflow software for digital pathology. We offer a browser-based platform for managing, viewing and annotating pathology images as well as all associated metadata and other digital content.

About the Position

The Strategic Initiatives Director will seek out new opportunities and develop programs that are in line with the company’s medium- and long-term vision. The role requires a highly competent and independent person capable of conceiving, developing and overseeing the execution of strategic initiatives. The candidate must be forward thinking and creative to create exciting programs that accelerate innovation and position the company as a leader in healthcare informatics. 

This role requires a person that can build strong relationships with external partners, and someone who can  promote and communicate the company’s strategic direction clearly. The candidate will support strategic initiatives by conducting market research, developing business plans and/or proposals for external funding agencies, networking within the broader community (industry, government, academia) to identify partners and collaborators, build strong relationships with external partners and manage communications throughout the project life cycle. 


  • Seek new opportunities and develop initiatives in line with strategic direction

  • Identify potential funding programs to support new initiatives 

  • Develop business plans and/or funding proposals to support new initiatives 

  • Lead external relations for strategic initiatives with all stakeholders

  • Develop program budget, determine staffing requirements and resource allocations

  • Develop and implement detailed operational plan outlining goals, objectives and timelines 

  • Manage reporting requirements and external communications for initiatives

  • Document all professional contacts including funders, stakeholders and collaborators

  • Oversee contract management and comply with the requirements of external partners

  • Responsible for overseeing program budgets and directly managing budget

  • Monitor deliverables of project teams and provides direction to project staff

  • Manage related consulting contracts including contract staff

  • Oversee financial reporting for initiative including audits


  • Ability to travel internationally and attend regional events as needed

  • Highly motivated and target driven personality

  • Ability to create and deliver presentations tailored to the audience needs

  • Ability to persuasively write about technical topics to inform business decisions 

  • Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical teams

  • Analytical mind with a business background and experience building business models

  • Relationship management skills and openness to feedback

  • Excellent  communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Great prioritization, time management and organizational skills

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Desired Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in similar roles

  • Past experience in microscopy, digital pathology or laboratories equipment

  • Past experience in cancer biology, diagnostics and treatment

  • Past experience in software and or IT fields
